The Nuthatches win the day

I went back to the Riverside Walk with the big lens and a tripod this afternoon, and was gloriously rewarded with close up views of the Nuthatches. It looks like they successfully drove the Woodpecker off, because the male was popping in and out with food for the female. I’m guessing she’s only just laid, as there was no sound of any young squawking. Hopefully I’ll be able to get shots of young being fed in the days to come!

Off the hard-working little chap goes again, bringing back a delicious bug this time…

…which she gratefully accepts…

…before wiping her beak clean, ready for the next morsel.
